OUR KOLOA DOGS

Koloa Hunting Goldens Kennel Legacy

Here, we have all of our Golden Retrievers that we've loved as a part of our family through the years. They've been loyal hunting partners; unwavering guardians for our children & grandchildren; purehearted life companions; and an endless source of joy, laughter, pride, fulfillment, & (occasional) annoyance.

We sure think that you can't get a better example of true goodness than a Golden Retriever.

Elektra

ELEKTRA

Koloa's Lady In Red FITS

(2/18/2021 - )

Here we have the little princess, the young lady -- truly her mother's daughter. Elektra is the nicest girl, who loves getting pets, while simultaneously being an anti-snuggler. A conscientious girl with her kitties, dog family, & kids, she's an absolute menace with her tail. Her talents include talking/singing/screaming & playing tunes on her squeaky toys. She's a wiggle monster with a flutter butt and her signature trick is "tunnel" (through the legs). On the business end, our girl has a fantastic nose and tends to find the birds first, but needs more practice not delegating the heavy lifting to her brother, i.e., the retrieving. Our little girl is extremely smart, quite stubborn, and deeply affectionate -- we couldn't have asked for more.

DODGER

Koloa's Always Duckin' Trouble

(2/18/2021 - )

You couldn't ask for a bigger sweetheart than Dodger. He's also an exceptional student, picking up training very quickly, and has multiple birds under his belt already. This boy is also an absolute athlete, perhaps the fastest Golden we've ever seen, and a total fiend when chasing & catching the ball. He's likes to present guests with footwear, but he's an equal opportunity retriever, graciously bringing you absolutely anything he finds interesting at ground level. Ever loving, it should be expected that his signature trick is to stand up and give full-body hugs, on demand. Extremely devoted and always eager to please, our sweetie-pie boy stole our hearts very early on.

RUBY

Koloa's Red Jewel of the Marsh

(10/30/2017 - )

This girl, henceforth known as Lady Ruby, has been one of our sauciest ladies, to date. She's quick to give attitude, but loves hugs & belly rubs. When she wants to misbehave, she bounces back and forth, just out of reach, like a willful puppy. She is a thoroughly devoted momma, including to the human children. We're lucky to have ended up with this lovely lady.

PALADIN

Koloa's Have Nose-Will Travel

(1/13/2015 - 11/1/2023)

Our gentleman, Paladin, is the best cuddler, frequent foot warmer & occasional pillow, and he is, by far, the greatest smiler. Our boy is the most enthusiastic hunter and loyal companion in the blind. He's well-known across Koloa Club for his patented waterfowl retrieves, using only his front teeth to carry them by the back skin. None have ever gotten away from him, so you can't mess with success. Unsurprisingly, he is also the most tolerant & accepting stepdad. Despite being the size of a small pony, our Paladino is the all-around gentlest & sweetest boy we could ever hope for.

Demona.jpg

DEMONA

Magicgold's Koloa Miss Behavin

(2/18/2011 - 2/15/2018)

If you were looking for a tough girl who's all business in the field, Demona fit the bill. Reminiscent of our matriarch, she was steady, confident, & caring, becoming an amazing adoptive momma. She may have been referred to as a "bruiser" a time or two, but was equally capable of smothering you with snuggles. She would always bring you a shoe, whether you needed one or not -- no need to be the owner of said shoe. Her opinon was freely given and she was quite the talker. We miss hearing her voice, and we sure miss our beloved girl.

DEKE

Koloa's AC Decoy Retrievin
Rascal

(4/12/2007 - 9/9/2012)

An absolute chip off the old block, Deke was a sweet, snuggly, lap-napping boy. He was the most natural hunter we've ever had, having moments where he practically trained himself. He went from the goofiest, wiggliest puppy, to being unceasingly loyal and stalwart; he represented the best of our kennel and our breed. During his short time, he brought us so much love and joy. We had to say goodbye much sooner than we wanted, but we always hold him very close in our hearts.

Aurora.jpg

AURORA

Headsup Koloa's Northern Light

(7/17/2004 - 12/3/2014)

A bundle of contradictions, we remember Aurora as our most polite Canadian miss, while also having fuzzy recollections of her gleefully tearing apart her dog beds, tossing the filler about the yard with wild abandon. She went by such aliases as Missy-Moo, Rora, & Rora-Bora. She was also a doting momma and an absolute love bug. Always joyful, though you might not know it from the mousy face & squinty eyes she produced for almost every picture. We'll always love our darling miss.

RISK

Koloa's Kona Venture

(8/12/2003 - 10/26/2015)

An overachiever in the cuddling department, Risk was an exceptional example of a velcro dog. He went from a dopey, block-headed sweetie to a calm, distinguished sir in his later years Though from day one, without fail, he and his papa couldn't share a yard or blind without sending each other tough-boy grumbles and side-eye. He absolutely loved his kids, and truly adored his kitties. Our Risky boy was a bright spot for everyone who knew him and had the privilege to love him.

Sutter.jpg

SUTTER

Koloa's Golden Discovery

(11/23/1998 - 7/7/2014)

Also known as Sutter Butter, she faithfully loved her kitties, her dog family, & her kids (possibly in that order). She adored her grandma and absolutely turned inside out with excitement & muzzle kisses any time she got to see her. A bed sleeper, couch burrower, shrub ornament, & a reformed puppy escape artist, Sutter was our sweet girl, through and through.

CHANCE

Koloa's Double or Nothin WC

(11/23/1998 - 10/30/2007)

Also known as Chancy, or Chancy-Pants, he was an expert nap partner and a perennial lap dog. However, he did have a dark side as a compulsive newspaper thief anytime he walked his neighborhood. This boy was a once-in-a-lifetime tracker, who virtually never lost a bird, and even earned his Working Certificate, as a side hustle. Chance had an addiction to chasing rabbits. On an "unrelated" note, he is also the dog who introduced us to responsibly used e-collars. After being gifted with this boy in our lives, we've never been the same.

Sassy.jpg

SASSY

Koloa's Kona Kid

(6/5/1993 - 7/5/2004)

Our Sassyfrass was the only dog who didn't have a call name picked out ahead of time. Fortunately, she sufficiently "sassed" everyone, so that didn't last long. Sassy was also, physically, the toughest dog we've ever seen, shaking off significant injuries, much to our consternation. She was a good momma, but really enjoyed her breaks. Her favorite position to lay was on her belly, legs splayed in such a way to earn the reference of "broken-back dog". Ever the rebel, she happily conspired with the kids to break the furniture rules and was cagey enough to avoid discovery by the "wet blanket" parents. She was nothing but trouble, and everything you could love in a dog.

NUGGET

Koloa's Mother Lode

(11/29/1988 - 12/18/2004)

Our regal matriarch, Nugget, was our first, and arguably best, Koloa momma. She was an absolute natural with all puppies, young dogs, & kids. In contrast, her bird retrieving feats earned her the moniker of "jaws of death" -- she never brought back cripples. The pinnacle of a water dog, she was a dock diver before it was cool. She also loved Kongs, "deep diving" to pull them out of the water bucket. Our Nuggy had a weakness for Scrunchies, stealing them off tables, off her human's wrist, and out of her human's hair. She enjoyed the game of having them put around her paw, then rolling on her back to tug on them. There was a pure love that came from our girl that we'll always miss.

Kona.jpg

KONA

Koloa's Kona Golddust

(1/24/1985 - 1/13/1996)

The one who started it all: Kona. Our most versatile and well-trained hunter, he would patiently tolerate all of our blunders, then would generously show us how to correctly accomplish the task. The "professional" would only tolerate so many missed shots from his humans, before he would go off and catch his own bird to bring back to the blind. He was a loving papa and an excellent conversationalist; and he would suffer no stick to exist intact in his vicinity. We'll always love our boy and the beautiful legacy he gifted us with.

RUSTY

Royalridge Rustic Ranger

(7/13/1975 - 7/1/1984)

While Rusty was not technically a Koloa's dog, he was the dog that made us fall in love with Golden Retrievers. He was also our first exposure to a hunting breed. Having Rusty cemented for us that Goldens are great dogs to both hunt over, and to make a part of our family.
